Prayers-

Hailey Lester is having surgery this morning at Children’s Hospital. One week ago on Sunday they performed her 3rd open heart surgery to remove a blood clot. This surgery has really helped her to have a very good week. After the surgery they did not fully close the incision. This decision was made to help reduce pressure on her heart. Today they are going to close the incision.

Chris Beekman successful defended his Thesis on Monday! Christ will now graduate on Sunday, March 21st from The Ohio State University with a PhD in Environmental Science. Congratulations Chris.

Dave Torrens is preparing for a bone morrow transplant and has several good donors that the Doctors have determined are matches for him.

News and Events-

The Woman’s Breakfast is this Saturday Morning @ 8:30. The lesson will be presented by Pasty Jo Brown and is titled “How Do We Know God is Listening.” The Hostesses are Jackie Duvall and Sue Ault.

Sunday after church we will have our first Pastor’s Class for people who wish to be baptized on Easter, April 4th. If you are in the 6th grade or up and have not been baptized, this is an excellent time to consider joining the Pastor’s class. Classes will meet on each Sunday in April.

The Sanctuary Roof had a ridge vent installed this past Wednesday. The vent will help keep pressure and heat from building up in the space between the ceiling and roof.

Plumbing Project in the woman’s restroom last weekend was successfully completed by Ron Wickham. Many of the women had noticed that it sounded like a whole squadron of fighter jets were taking off each time the toilet was flushed. There was extensive corrosive debris that was making the water run excessively. Ron replaced one valve and adjusted the flow regular on the other valve so all is plumb again! Thanks Ron and God bless your plumbing knowledge.

Church Softball Anyone. I am checking to see if there is enough interest to put together a church Softball team for this summer. We could use this as a way to meet other people in the community if we open up enrollment for Saint Andrew to invite our Boy Scout Parents and Weight Watcher folks to join us to form a team. Do we have any interested from folks out there? Let me know. 614 370 3899.

Our Faithful Servants were cleaning and polishing the Sanctuary this morning. We are so proud of all the wonderful things these folks have done for us.

Prayer List-

* Hailey Lester has had a week that has swung from stable to life threatening many times. Coming into this weekend she has been getting better.

* Rena Clark and family, friend of Melodie Proper and Chrystal Joyce, need prayers for family health and healing.

* Alex Birko, her leg is healing and growing new bone. She has a much smaller cast which helps with mobility. She is not back to school yet.

* Rich Ihlendorf had good news following his recent CT scans-everything is clear. He doesn’t need more tests for another year.

* Dan Hausch is meeting this week with his doctor to discuss a positive test result and plan for early stage of prostate cancer.

*Marjorie Geist hurt her back moving her washing machine back into place. This kind to strain takes a bit of time to heal and is very painful.

Pastor’s Story- On Monday, I had a strange request. A couple who was in town for an adoption called and asked if I could have 13 day old Jack blessed. They explained that it needed it to be done on that same day because on Tuesday morning they had to deliver Jack back to the court. The biological father would not sign off for the adoption and so the biological mother decided she wanted the baby, too. Jack was now going to go into foster care on Tuesday morning while the court took time to decided custody. I met the couple on Monday afternoon in the sanctuary at Saint Andrew. We prayed for Jack and read the scripture of Jesus blessing the children and then we said a blessing for Jack. I have prayed for Jack every day this week, that he would have committed adults in his life to help him grow up strong and healthy. I have prayed that the adults in Jack life will teach him about God’ love, Jesus’ saving Grace, and give to him the gift of Holy Spirit. I prayed that the couple who had to give Jack back, would have a chance to parent a child that they could lead to Christ. And then I prayed that the people of Saint Andrew can be committed Christians who help others, like Jack, grow up to know Christ.

Prayers –

Hailey Lester, newborn daughter of Jason and Stephanie Lester, is having open heart surgery this morning at Children’s hospital. The Doctors had originally wanted to do this surgery in 3 or 4 months, but Hailey was having difficulties with low blood pressure and low oxygen levels so late last night the decision was made to do the surgery this morning that would help correct these problems. The surgery this morning will place a patch over the tricuspid valve to help with the leaking, and will also place a shunt in that will direct more blood to her lungs. This will be the first of three surgeries to help her heart. The next surgery will come in 4-6 months. You can receive updates that Stephanie and Jason post on the Caringbridge network by filling out a brief registration at the following web-site: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/haileylester

Deb and Dan Hausch are both waiting for test results from recent lab tests.

Our Missionary Partners in Japan have written the following prayer to share with us.

Dear God, thank you for the many gifts of community and fellowship with the global Christian community. This week we pray for Japan. We ask for your light and guidance for Christians in Japan on their journey towards your kingdom here on earth. Help us to learn to serve and walk alongside our partners in the Japanese church on this mission. We…

- Pray for global food security and for ministries like the Asian Rural Institute in Tochigi Prefecture which help to inspire leadership in rural communities both in Japan and around the world.

- Pray for the indigenous peoples of Japan from the Ainu peoples of northern Japan and Hokkaido to Ryu Kyu peoples in Okinawa, and others as they continue their struggle for acknowledgement by the Japanese people and government.

- Pray for the Christian centers and smaller ministries like the Emmaus Center, the Douhoku Centre, the Student Christian Fellowship (SCF), Bazaar Café, and Ginowan Seminar House as they continue to serve as a vital meeting point between the church and the wider community. Help them to continue their work serving the most vulnerable and needy.

- Pray for sexual minorities, the LGBT community in both Japan and the US, that they are able to find acceptance and understanding from their families, religious institutions, and government leaders.

- Pray that awareness of Article 9 of Japan’s Peace Constitution will continue to grow both here in Japan and abroad. We pray that Japan will be an example of peace in seeking non-military means for conflict resolution.

We bring these prayers to you from a world, still broken, as a forgiving and forgiven people of God. Amen

(Prayer by Sandra Lee-Takei Global Ministries International Partners in Japan:

Church Board Notes

Lee Crume opened the meeting with lively discussion concerning Saint Andrew claiming a vision and direction for our church to move toward. Many contributions were volunteered from folks present. It was noted that Saint Andrew is a family orientated church. People appreciate the very young to the senior members. It was noted that the church is different form the rest of the community because we offer a spiritual dimension to everything we do. People like to do mission projects (blanket Sunday, Mid-Ohio Food bank, Mission trips) Some people remembered meaningful past groups they had been in like Children Play groups, Book based Bible study groups, Young Mother’s groups and Senior’s Out To Lunch groups. It was agreed that we want to spiritually nourish our members and reach new people to with Christ. We would love to hear dreams and ideas that our members have concerning how we can reach new people with the love of Christ and nurture our members as good Disciples of Christ. Send your thoughts, ideas, and comments to saccpastor@midohio.twcbc.com or call Rev. Morgan at 614-889-0758 (church) or 614-370-3899 (cell phone). Pastor Morgan noted that people tend to be very good at noting what each of us like as individuals, but we all need to remind each other to be reaching out to others who are not members of any church. At our next board meeting on March 15th we will see about launching some good plans that will develop strong disciples and make new disciples.

In other board business-

Dave Cook awarded a bid to the Roof Doctor to install ridge vents on the Sanctuary Roof for a cost of $1300.

We would like to remind people the Saint Andrew Gift policy. The church board will make determination of receiving gifts and donations of in-kind goods. We have some donations that have been wonderful gifts that were dropped off here and we don’t know who to thank. We have other donations that have been dropped off, but they do not suit the church’s needs and would be better directed to another non-prophet. If you have a gift you would like to donate, please contact the church office at 614-889-0758 for the church board to consider.

Molly Yeager announced our Vacation Bible School theme this summer will be Australia Down Under. VBS will be June 14-18 from 5:30 to 8:00 each evening.
Sharon Cook noted that we can help donate to the Mid-Ohio Food bank by registering your Kroger Plus Card at the following web-site. In just the program’s first quarter, the Food bank received over $1,200! We’d like to thank Kroger for allowing their customers to make a difference and support the charity of their choice.

Coming Events and News-

Blanket Sunday Month- the Women did a great job promoting Church World Service Blankets. Their Banner overflowed to a 2nd banner! The goal for this year was 710 blankets and was surpassed. We raised enough funds for 766 blankets! A big thank you for the generous support of such a worthy cause.

Valentines Day Dinner- We have 43 people signed up for our dinner tonight at the church. Susie and Chuck have been practicing for over a month and are ready to inspire those who are young at heart with their music. The food is cooking and the church smells great! The church side walk conditions are excellent for folks coming out tonight but be careful in the parking lot. There are still some icy patches in the lot.

The women’s and men’s breakfast is this Saturday at 8:30. The women have volunteered to prepare the food. Come in out of the cold and shake off some of the cabin fever.

Ash Wednesday Service- Saint Andrew is hosting the Ash Wednesday service at 7:30 on February 17th. Rev. Judy Huffhine from Highlands Presbyterian is the guest preacher. Her sermon is titled “Take a Deep Breath”.

Wilmington Mid-winter Event is February 19-21 at Anderson Hills Christian Church in Cincinnati. Attending from Saint Andrew are Sarah Norman, Kevin Ross, Joey Hancher, and Andy Wickizer. We also have youth planning to attend the Lakeside Midwinter Event on March 19-21, in Paulding. We can still sign folks up for the March event. See Rev. Morgan for a registration form.

The much talked about Chi Rho winter Lock-in is coming February 17th. Maybe you have heard about this Grand Slam Event during Worship? As always, we encourage our Chi Rho youth to bring friends, their appetites, and a heaping helping of good will. For more information, see Sarah Guider, Michael Ross, or Carolann Richardson.

This Sunday is “Souper Bowl Sunday” . Each bowl of soup is $3.00 with all the funds going to Haiti relief.

Would you consider donating your bone marrow to help another person? The following is the website where any interested donors may sign up or find out more information. www.marrow.org This is a national registry which OSU checks every single day for possible compatible donors. It is a simple matter of taking a DNA swab and sending it in for testing. There is some cost involved - but I am not sure how much it is.

The Big News! Troy Beekman was born on Dec. 30 at 3:00 a.m.! He was a healthy 5 lbs and 2 oz baby. Both Gina and Chris are so happy. Troy was expected around Jan. 15, but after this week’s ultrasound, the Doctors believed it would be best to induce the delivery. If all goes well, Troy will go home this weekend.

Ellie Nelson had her 2nd laser eye surgery this past Monday. It actually was a bit easier than the first. The surgery is done to release pressure in her eye due to Glaucoma.

Andy Wickizer had his wisdom teeth removed on Monday. He was home recovering just 2 hours later. (I’m not sure the wisdom of the timing of this surgery. Having it done just before 2 snow falls, means I had to move my own snow.)

Calendar Items-

The women’s breakfast is this Saturday at 8:30 a.m. The program will be presented by Sondra Taylor and the Hostesses are Lisa Wickizer and Beth Harmon.

The CYF mission Trip is being planed for the week of June 28- July 3. Usually we have been gone the first full week of July, but that would have had us leaving on July 4. I hope this week is a good week for everyone who would like to attend.

I wish everyone a happy New Year and blessed 2010.

Annual Congregational Meeting. Following Worship, the church board will present the 2010 budget and leadership nominations. Below is the result of the stewardship drive. I think the chart created by Mike Brown is very helpful, but I would like to add a couple of notes. First of all, we did not have a line in the 2009 budget for capital giving pledges. At the time we had enough to complete the window project and had been able to pay for it out of our capital holdings. Dave Cook shared at a Board meeting that we have several aging unites that we use for cooling (1985 and 1989 installations) that it would be prudent to build up some capital money to be prepared for a replacement in the near future.

Prayers-

Gail Hillman is now home recovering from her surgery.

Charlotte Johnson, wife of Rev. Paul Johnson, fell and fractured several vertebras. She is recovering at O’Bleness Hospital in Athens, Ohio.

Emogene Mefford Died last Sunday in Palestine, IL. Emogene lived to see her 100th birthday this year. Emogene was like a 2nd grandmother to Morgan Wickizer.

Broad Street Christian Church will be ending their worship services on Oct 29th. They have accepted an offer to sell their building to an Ethiopian Orthodox Church. They have been a vital congregation for a very long time in Columbus and served Christ faithfully in word and mission.

Calendar Items-

The WWJD/SEEDS children are working to bring happiness and joy to less fortunate children by again participating in Operation Christmas Child! The kids came up with the idea to have a BAKE SALE after church this Sunday, October 25. We hope you will donate generously so we can help other children around the world!

THANKS so much & we’ll see you for goodies after church!

The church Halloween Party is this Saturday (Tomorrow) from 5:00-8:00. Put on your favorite dress-up costume and come enjoy the games, food, and people. There will be prizes for best costumes, an amazing maze, and lots of games like eating a powered donut hung on a string with out using your hands. (It’s harder than you think, a little bit messy, and a “hole” lot of fun!) Bring a friend and come to the party.

The gardening Elves has been busy this week at Saint Andrew. You remember the story of the Elves and the Shoemaker…. Well on Tuesday I left the church to attend a funeral and returned to discover that most of the leaves along Swansford Drive had “magically disappeared”! Then on Thursday I stopped on my way to a meeting in Delaware and the church garden had doubled in size and the rest of the leaves along Swansford had “magically disappeared”! However, this time I had witnesses that I could interview. Apparently Lynda Chisman, John and Charlette Allred, and Bert and Eldon Brum had seen the busy Elves working their magic. What a great amount of work it was. A Big thanks to all of you.

Gina Beekman had several tests run on Monday at the Hospital to discover why she passed out several weeks ago. Gina passed out during one of the test with the cardiologist. They believe a rapid heart rate is leading to a drop in blood pressure.

Walter M. Gillespie passed away early Monday morning. Walter is the father of Bonnie Goldner (Russ), the grandfather of Chris Bobbitt (Jenny), and the great grandfather of Paige, Matthew, and Andrew. Walter is survived his wife, Mary Long Gillespie. Calling hours will be Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gilbert-Fellers Funeral Home in Brookville, and briefly before the 1:00 p.m. service on Saturday at United Christian Church in Clayton.

He still persists in his integrity, although you incited me against him, to destroy him for no reason.” Then Satan answered the LORD, “Skin for skin! All that people have they will give to save their lives. But stretch out your hand now and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face.” The LORD said to Satan, “Very well, he is in your power; only spare his life.” So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD, and inflicted loathsome sores on Job from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. Job took a potsherd with which to scrape himself, and sat among the ashes. Then his wife said to him, “Do you still persist in your integrity? Curse God, and die.” But he said to her, “You speak as any foolish woman would speak. Shall we receive the good at the hand of God, and not receive the bad?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

SECOND SCRIPTURE READING: Mark 10:2-16

Some Pharisees came, and to test him they asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” He answered them, “What did Moses command you?” They said, “Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of dismissal and to divorce her.” But Jesus said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart he wrote this commandment for you. But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” Then in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter. He said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her; and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.” People were bringing little children to him in order that he might touch them; and the disciples spoke sternly to them. But when Jesus saw this, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.” And he took them up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them.

Weekly insert for Sunday, October 4, 2009
October 3, 2009 on 8:17 pm | In Newsletters | No Comments
10:30 AM

EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

THE CHURCH GATHERS
The Prelude
Introit “Sing Halleluja”
Lighting of the Candles
(Please remain quiet during the prelude for prayer or meditation.)
Greetings & Announcements
*Hymn of Praise No.59
“This Is My Father’s World”

*CALL TO WORSHIP Justin Kale
One: Lord Jesus, you are a reflection of the glory of
God
Many: O Lord, how exalted is your name over all the
earth.
One: Lord Jesus, you are the exact imprint of God’s very
being.
Many: O Lord, how exalted is your name over all the
earth,
One: Lord Jesus, you are now crowned with glory and
honor.
All: O Lord, our Lord.
